Cardiac Screening is a term used by SADS Australia when a patient undergoes an Electrocardiogram (ECG) and/or and Echocardiogram (Echo) to assist in finding a cardiac condition, if any.
Centres such as CRY UK and the Centenary Institute agree that screening may be beneficial in determining a patient’s cardiac condition…

What is an ECG?
An Electrocardiogram is a device that monitors your hearts electricity by monitoring the conductive pathways at certain locations (i.e. your chest and legs) for accurate results you should lie down and remain still. The entire process only takes up to 5 minutes and is completely painless.
What is an Echo?
An Echocardiogram is a device more known for ‘pregnancy scans’. Ultra-sound waves create a picture of the heart’s structure which is later read by cardiologists. This test requires you to lie still on your back, although, the medical practitioner may ask you to lie on one side for some of the time. It can take up to 20 minutes and is completely painless.
